In a bizarre partnership that challenges usual forecasts, Ubisoft has revealed an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the official announcement, "An unusual encounter pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where hints of forbidden rituals and terrifying changes echo through the shadows." The plot introduces a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a clandestine cult.

The questline centers on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying foe" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Metamorphoses

The trailer features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer ends with a dramatic sequence showing a character, probably the captive, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Extra Features

Players who finish the quest will obtain an unique katana together with multiple artifacts hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Addition

This update also brings the game's newest free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe debuts a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Past Anime Partnerships

This represents scarcely the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime franchises. The series formerly showcased a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that unmistakably nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
