The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Athletes are granted the ability to contest specific rulings made by the official, following the system already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step follows just a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review specific situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
